About us

Known for his impeccably monogrammed shirt cuffs (DWK) and his outstanding leadership, Dan Weckstein served the Cincinnati/Dayton community for 20+ years until he took a medical leave due to a rare form of brain cancer.

Dan was a teacher and administrator in the Kings Local SD, Lakota Local SD and most recently served as principal of Oakwood Junior High School in Dayton, Ohio.

The resilience and bravery he showed in the face of his cancer inspired the OJH Student Council to fund a scholarship in 2018 to acknowledge students facing similar challenges and to motivate them to live every day with courage.

The $1,000 scholarship, which was awarded in May 2018 was the inspiration for development of The Resilience Scholarship Fund.

The Resilience Scholarship Fund expanded the scholarship reach to include Lakota Local SD and Kings Local SD in 2019 and Centerville City SD and Kettering City SD in 2020.  All school districts are located in Cincinnati/Dayton area in Ohio.

What is Resilience?

Resilience is that quality that allows some people to be knocked down by life disruptions and come back at least as strong as before. Rather than letting difficulties or failure overcome them and drain their resolve, they find a way and adapt and grow from a disruptive experience.
